cathy_bureaux I signed the petition and totally agree that tax shouldn’t be charged on second hand items. Thanks for posting about the petition here!

madscloset2 @roni_resells Although, on further reflection, most secondhand stores are already tax-free as they are charities. There are a few around here that are not, namely Mission stores, and why they didn't receive charitable status has never been explained to me. Of course there is then Value Village, the elephant in the room.

madscloset2 But there are also consignment stores, many of which bring in new items like accessories or liquidated merchandise, so you would have a mix of taxable and non-taxable goods. So it may not be as simple an issue as it first appears. I'm wondering why IKEA started this petition. Are they hoping to sell returned product -- which is technically secondhand -- tax free?

madscloset2 And here on Poshmark we have Boutiques, which are supposedly selling new merchandise. So Poshmark would have to collect tax there. One upside would be to eliminate those sellers who put anything that's NWT or NWOT in boutiques that don't exist, and of course those selling replicas that PM doesn't seem willing to eliminate, despite their rules.
